SCOPE: It is almost time to say all good about Bangladeshi politics. No wonder why Awami League & BNP has been burgeoning in US, Canada, Europe and many other countries. Finally, their challenging journey to foreign lands has come off with flying colors, with new hopes, spirits and direction under the tutelages of Madam Hasina and madam Khaleda. Just look at what the “un-Common“ has happened in British House of “Commons“ only last Friday (07 May 2010)! Imagine an elected “Awami League MP” in British Parliament that generated powerful Tsunami of democracy all over the world. The fact is, Madam Hasina’s “Awami League candidate“ Rushanara Ali made an unprecedented history by securing decisive victory over Khaleda’s “BNP candidate” Ajmal Masroor and “JAMAT candidate” Abjol Meah! Another Awami League candidate, grand daughter of our Bongabondho, Tulip Siddiqui easily won a position of City Councilor (at Regent Park Ward in London) ........ More

may declare no-firing along Bangladesh border: Pillai
India
may declare a unilateral no-firing along its border with
Bangladesh for a year to avoid the deaths of civilians in
any cross-fire, Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said here Friday.
We are considering unilateral no firing on the border for
one year. The modalities of that are being worked out, Pillai
said at the India-Bangladesh security dialogue organised
by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and Bangladesh
Enterprise Institute (BEI) here.

Court Upholds Death Sentences in Coup Case
DHAKA,
Nov 19 (VoBD) - Bangladesh's Supreme Court on
Thursday upheld death sentences on five men convicted of
killing the country's independence leader, Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, in an army revolt 34 years ago, lawyers and court
officials said. Mujib was slain with most members of his
family in the August 15, 1975 revolt, which ended the nation's
first spell of democracy and set the stage for a series
of coups and foiled coups.

the plenary Session of the 4th European Developpment Days
meeting in Stockholm in October 2009. Yunus brought ideas
for creating micro "social businesses" from Bangladesh

held to demand passage of Student Safety Act

York - 5 Nov (VoBD) - A rally was held October
22 in front of City Hall to demand that the New York City
Council pass the Student Safety Act [Intro. 816-2008]. The
Urban Youth Collaborative, an organization devoted to human
rights activists, organized the rally in which leaders from
different activist groups - including Desis Rising Up and
Moving (DRUM) and the New York Civil Liberties Union - spoke.
